    Noise & Vibration Mitigation

Sound and vibration are natural by-products of practically all mechanical, electrical, and human activity. Low levels of sound emission and vibration are usually ignored, and are accepted as part of our everyday background sounds. When a particular sound or vibration significantly exceeds the acceptable background level for a facility, except for the purpose of communication, we refer to it as "noise".

Interior Noise & Vibration Diagnosis, Monitoring, Recording, and Assessment:

    • Sound Pressure Level (SPL) A, B, C Scale
    • Noise Criteria (NC) Curves
    • Room Criteria (RC) Curves
    • Field Sound Transmission Class (FSTC) Ratings
    • Field Impact Isolation Class (FIIC) Ratings
    • HVAC System Noise
    • Plumbing System Noise
    • Structural Vibration
    • OSHA Noise Exposure

Exterior Noise & Vibration Diagnosis, Monitoring, Recording, and Assessment:

Spectra Tech has the technical expertise necessary to conduct onsite testing at your facility, identify sources of objectionable noise, and to develop strategies for mitigation of such noise.

Our onsite test systems can be deployed to operate unattended for up to one week, documenting the time, dB level, frequency spectrum.

We can also simultaneously record the actual audio of noise as it is occurring, to facilitate positive identification of the noise source.

We can compare the test results to normally acceptable design standards. Based on the frequency range and intensity of the noise we measure, we will recommend the specific noise control measures which will best suit your particular situation.

On new construction projects, we can work with other members of your design team to identify potential sources of noise, and develop plans and specifications to limit noise and vibration emissions to acceptable levels.

Spectra Tech uses a Structural Floor Vibration Analysis and Optimization program to evaluate structural designs and floors in accordance with the AISC/CISC Design Guide #11: Floor Vibration due to Human Activity.
